Treatment Process
Second
Step: Either a CT Simulation or Conventional
Simulation
CT Simulation and Conventional Simulation are both
are non-invasive procedures, which simulate your which
takes between 30 to 60 minutes, to mark the location
of the tumor and the area that the radiation onocologist
will be treating with radiation. A CT Simulation uses
a computerized tomorgraphy(CT) machine to establish treatment
boundaries for each patient. During the procedure, the
patient must lie very still on a flat table while alignment
marks are drawn on the skin with a paint marker to indicate
the treatment area. A Conventional
Simulation is done using a simulator table. During this procedure, the
patient must live very still on a flat table while the radiation therapist takes
x-rays and uses a paint marker to indicate the treatment area. At the end of
this simulation process, you will be given an appointment date to return for
your first day of radiation treatment. The paint markers are to remain
on your skin until the fist day of radiation treatment. Since these marks are
not permanent, be careful not to wash them off while bathing.
