New MRI Unit at West Georgia Health System
A new, permanent Magnetic Resonance Imaging unit was delivered to West Georgia Health System on Tuesday, February 22. The 12' by 60', 80-ton building was lowered into place behind West Georgia Medical Center by large cranes. It will be connected to the hospital’s radiology department by an enclosed walkway.
The MRI unit is a General Electric 1.5 Tesla magnet - the largest magnet made for public use. It was transported from Meriden, Connecticut through Chicago, Illinois, where it was upgraded by General Electric and building manufacturer Calumet Coach Co.
The new facility is expected to be operational in approximately 4-6 weeks. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturdays. All MRI scans must be scheduled through the radiology department with a physician referral. |
