| Florence Hand Home Charitable Trust
The Florence
Hand Home Charitable Trust was established in 1982
to assist with the purchase of items for direct resident
care and to improve the quality of life for
Florence Hand Home residents. For example, the
trust has provided funds for the purchase of a handicap-accessible
van which is used to transport residents to area events
or places of interest. The original funds for the Trust
came from a bequest by Mrs. Vernon Powell. This bequest
stipulated that the funds be given to the Florence
Hand Home to establish a charitable trust for the purpose
of resident enhancement. The original amount of the
grant to establish the trust was $26,500. Since
that time, additional funds have been received in memory
and honor of people in the community.
The trust, which meets annually each fall, consists of three members appointed by the West Georgia Health System Board of Trustees, one member appointed by the West Georgia Health System Auxiliary, plus the CEO/President of West Georgia Health System and the Vice President responsible for Florence Hand Home.
