WGHS Board of Trustees approves new Financial Assistance Policy
The West Georgia Health System Board of Trustees today
approved a new Financial Assistance policy that extends
its current policy to allow the health system to serve
a larger population of lower income patients from Troup
and surrounding counties.
Until now, WGHS’ Charity Care policy allowed patients
whose income fell within 125% of Federal Poverty Guidelines
to have their entire hospital bill written off. In addition
to this aspect of the new Financial Assistance policy,
patients whose income falls between 125 and 250% of the
Federal Poverty Guidelines may now qualify to have their
debt reduced based on a sliding scale.
To qualify, patients must work with one of WGHS’ financial
counselors to complete paperwork to determine eligibility.
Typically, a patient is notified of his or her eligibility
for this program within two weeks of submitting a completed
application and the required financial information. |
