Hospital's South Tower Expansion Continues

Construction continues on schedule and on budget for West Georgia Health System’s South Tower, scheduled for completion in April 2010. The steel structural frame that was visible only months ago is now enclosed in an “outer skin” covering of Tyvek insulation and stucco.
Construction crews are completing the installation of the building’s roof and windows. Basement-level and third floor connections from the medical center have been completed. Crews have nearly completed the drywall on the South Tower’s ground floor and construction of the support structure for the grand staircase in the main lobby has begun. Installation of the building’s elevators is also in progress. The entrance canopy for the Emergency Department has been erected and the exterior stone work has begun.
“I think we have reached a point in the construction process where the South Tower is really becoming ‘real’ to the community,” said President and CEO Jerry Fulks. “Every day you can see the progress being made just by driving by. It’s becoming easier for many to visualize the impact this structure will have on the community and the way we deliver care.”
In addition to providing a new “front door” to health system, the four-story South Tower will include expansions of West Georgia Health System’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Cardiovascular Services, Labor and Delivery and the Emergency Departments. |
